Founding of the Organization
“Panos & Cressida – Help The Children”, also known as “Panos & Cressida 4Life”, was originally established in 2006 (as “Panos4Life”), as a “Civil Not-For-Profit society” in the memory of Panos Vardakas, who fought hard against illness, by close friends and family. Our society was extended in 2010, so as to include the memory of Cressida Spachis, a childhood friend and classmate of Panos, who passed away unexpectedly.
Our idea originated not only from our desire to offer material help but also from our wish to offer some of our time to young people and make their lives easier and more pleasant, especially when chance circumstances or illness inhibit their career or talent development…
The first earnings of the organization were obtained mainly through the selling of Panos’ photographs in exhibitions held in Athens, Thessaloniki, Constantinople and Brussels, and of cards and calendars with photographs by Panos and his friends. That money, even before the official establishing of the organization, was given to “Floga” and to families of ill children in Greece and Belgium.
Panos and Cressida
Panos Vardakas, a young economist, struggled with cancer for many years. He left us in 2006 at the age of 29. He showed exceptional sensitivity, discretion, courage and patience and he gave us all a lesson in how to combat the hardships of life. Everyone acknowledged his passion for photography and sports, mainly basket-ball, and his wholehearted devotion to helping others and especially children.
Cressida Spachis, a civil engineer and Panos’ childhood friend, passed away suddenly at the age of 33. Dynamic and intelligent, she quickly climbed the hierarchy of a big London company. A dear colleague, she supported and trained the younger and was a protagonist in the “Company female movement”. An authentic dancer, skier and swimmer, she was above all solid, tender and devoted to her family, friends and social surroundings.
